Friday 13th January

Acorns have been watching the weather reports all week, looking at the maps and thinking about different types of weather to help us track the possible appearance of snow towards the end of the week. On Friday the snow did arrive, not quite enough for us to make some of the ambitious plans but enough for us to explore and have fun in. We spent lots of this week looking at what happens when we combine different materials including why we might need salt when it gets cold. In phonics lessons we have recapped our knowledge of phase 2 sounds and next week we will be starting on phase 3, new sound books will be coming home at the end of the week. In our maths sessions we have been looking at different measures, we measured the length of objects using rulers and meter sticks and we have been looking for the measurements we might find in our lunchboxes on packets of food and cartons of drink. Next week we will be making our own foodscapes, something which is always fun and perhaps a little messy!
