Acorns had a very busy week with a trip to the local war memorial on Wednesday and baking biscuits which sold out in minutes at the Children in Need sale in the afternoon on Friday. In art this week we looked at images of the Tower of London from last year with all the poppies installed around it, we then created our own class version which is attached to our castle in the classroom. Outside we made a poppy wreath which we laid at the bottom of the memorial we attached to our frame, this enabled the children to learn about the significance of a memorial before we went with the rest of the school on Wednesday. In our literacy sessions we have been learning how to write lists and thinking about when we might write a list. In our maths lessons we have been focusing on 2D shapes and have been learning the names and properties of a circle, square, rectangle and triangle. We even started to look at pentagons, hexagons and octagons. In phonics we have learnt the three different ways of representing the same sound, 'c', 'k' and 'ck'. In our understanding of the world lessons with Mrs Hyman this week we have learnt how to construct castles and each made our own.
