This term Acorns have been very busy learning through a topic titled 'Explorers'. In the first week back we did lots of comparing between England and Ghana. We talked about what is the same and what is different about these two countries. In our phonics lessons we have continued to develop our confidence and knowledge of phase 3 sounds and have been learning lots of new digraphs. We have begun to develop our understanding of what a sentence might look like and features we should see within one. In our maths lessons this half term we are focusing mostly on number. We have learnt how to use singapore bars to help us solve addition problems and this week we are learning about subtraction. These past two weeks Acorns have focused on pirates as the theme within Explorers. The children went on a treasure hunt and found ingredients to make fairy cakes and did so very well, we have learnt about some pirate features such as a Jolly Roger flag and we have been finding out what floats and what sinks. In the coming weeks we will be finding out about how flight has changed over the years and learning more about Kenya - a country one of our pupils visited over Christmas.
