The Romans

posted 1 Mar 2019, 08:27 by Anna Rust
What a busy week! We have started a new topic called I am Warrior. It is all about the Romans. On Monday we explored the design of Roman shields and then created our own on large sheets of cardboard before painting them. We learned about the 'boss' which is in the centre of the shield. After this, we compared the Roman army to a Celtic warrior and we also researched using the internet and books. Today we practised typical Roman army formations - the Tortoise and the Wedge. We found the Wedge a challenging formation to make as a class but we managed to move as a group in Tortoise formation.

This week we have begun learning about fractions. We stared by looking at fractions of shapes and equivalent fractions. Today, we made our own fraction wall which we will use in future lessons. Next week we will be finding fractions of amounts and investigating equivalent fractions further.

Children practise their spellings in school every morning; these words have also been sent home today so that you are aware of what your child is learning. Children will receive house points for returning their spelling grids, completed, each Wednesday.
