WELCOME BACK! We hope everyone has had an amazing summer and is ready to start the new academic year.

Two new children have joined our class  and we are excited to welcome new and old Maples children back.

This week we started the topic – ‘A Child’s War’. This topic is based on World War Two from a child’s perspective, looking into the life of what it is like to be a child evacuee. So far we have explored the emotion of the children evacuated through diary entries, as well as how different countries were involved in the war. In maths we are beginning to look at place value and how it can help with addition and subtraction, both whole numbers and decimals.

We have enjoyed listening to each other read our class book ‘The Lion and the Unicorn’ by Shirley Hughes. This is going to be the basis of many literacy lessons.

We look forward to seeing everyone back after the weekend. Have fun!
