All the children came back ready and excited to start their new topic this term called Towers, Tunnels and Turrets. Some of the children had been on visits to a castle over the half term break and were keen to share their stories. In topic lessons this week the children learnt about some of the important defence features of castles and in art the children looked at how to draw a castle building on different sections. In literacy lessons this week Oaks learnt how to use sub-headings in their writing, they all wrote extended pieces using what they had found out about castle defences at the start of the week. On Thursday the class used the laptops to draw their own castles and then labelled them. In maths this week the children have been exploring fractions using the singapore bar method to help them. When it came to finding fractions of shapes on Friday they were all really confident. At the end of the week the children used anything they could find outside to build their own castles, they could explain how they had created all the important features of a castle and the teamwork was brilliant. Photos of this week will be added soon!
