Oaks Latest News
Autumn 2 2024
What a great start to this year! Oaks have had a great Autumn term and are well deserving of a Christmas break. We have ended our Childhood topic by making our own knowledge organisers and showing off our knowledge in the end of unit quiz.
A huge highlight of this half term, of course, has to be our amazing performance in our nativity, Prickly Hay! All of Oaks and Acorns showed off their acting talents and speaking skills throughout all the performances. I hope everyone who came to watch also enjoyed all the children’s hard work. ‘Hooray for Prickly Hay!’
In the last week of this term, we are heading off to the pantomime, which all the children always really enjoy, and having our annual carol service where Oaks are performing ‘I want a Hippopotamus for Christmas’.
Autumn 1 2024
Oaks have had a great start to the new school year! The Year 1s have settled in incredibly well, adapting to the new routines and accessing Oaks continuous provision successfully.
We have had a great time learning about the 1950s in our topic Childhood. Oaks have been introduced to the subject of history, learning how to make a timeline and to use time words/phrases correctly. They’ve briefly experienced some 1950s entertainment such as Muffin the Mule and Rock ‘n’ Roll music. Then looked at homes and types of transport typically used in the 1950s. At the end of this half term, Oaks then worked in pairs to create their own knowledge organiser full of facts and diagrams they have used in our topic.
In Art, Oaks have developed their knowledge of colour and how different artists use colour. We use Mix It Up! By Herve Tullet to start learning to identify primary colours and use these to mix secondary colours. Oaks ended the Mix It unit by creating a final piece inspired by another artist’s use of colour.
It has been such a good start to the year and we hope you enjoy the well deserved half term break.
Summer 2 2024
Well done Oaks for such a great year and a lovely last half term! We’ve wrapped up our School Days unit by planning and performing an assembly to the whole school. They did a fantastic job planning their lines, the entrance/exit music and organising who led The Grace. The whole school really enjoyed their presentation and recalled many of the facts shared at the end.
We also had our Victorian Day which was a great success. Oaks had lots of fun taking part, roleplaying and finding out even more interesting facts.
Oaks also completed a DT project all about building, joining and strengthening. In trios, they designed their own Victorian school and planned what materials they needed based on what they had learnt in previous lessons. We then built our own Victorian schools, decorating and constructing them.
