Oaks Latest News
Summer 2 2024
Well done Oaks for such a great year and a lovely last half term! We’ve wrapped up our School Days unit by planning and performing an assembly to the whole school. They did a fantastic job planning their lines, the entrance/exit music and organising who led The Grace. The whole school really enjoyed their presentation and recalled many of the facts shared at the end.
We also had our Victorian Day which was a great success. Oaks had lots of fun taking part, roleplaying and finding out even more interesting facts.
Oaks also completed a DT project all about building, joining and strengthening. In trios, they designed their own Victorian school and planned what materials they needed based on what they had learnt in previous lessons. We then built our own Victorian schools, decorating and constructing them.
Summer 1 2024
This half term Oaks have begun their School Days unit of learning which is all about the Victorian era. We started by researching the history of our own school and then created timelines showing the significant events from our own history. Oaks looked at historic photographs, year books, class photos and even a log book about our school from the Victorian era! Since then, we have further investigated the Victorian era, roleplayed Victorian school lessons and used artefacts to compare school life then versus now.
In Art we have explored Urban landscapes and the work of James Rizzi, a famous Pop Art artist. Oaks compared and contrasted a range of urban landscape art and then attempted to copy a piece of James Rizzi’s art. Once we understood the features of James Rizzi’s art and Pop Art, Oaks planned and created their own 3D urban landscape with bold colours and graphic patterns.
It has been a great start to the summer term and we are excited to adventure more into the Victorian era when we return to school.
Spring 2 2024
A great spring term has come to an end. The whole class has worked hard throughout our Coastline topic and have produced some lovely work which they were able to share in the final week with the whole school. They have really enjoyed learning about Captain James Cook, a bit about the life of a pirate and how to sing sea shanties.
Oaks won the attendance award for the third time this year for having the highest attendance this half term. So we got to spend our reward time down in the park which happened to have a pirate ship. Oaks chose to sing sea shanties while roleplaying as a pirate crew!
We have been looking at construction and developing the skills to make their own beach hut in DT. Most recently, they learnt how to strengthen and join card using only lolly sticks and masking tape. They worked in trios building a 3 walled structure which they got to decorate.
We ended the term with our Easter church service and traditional pasta hunt. Well done to the winners who managed to get the closest to the 50g pasta goal.
