Maples visit to Christchurch Cathedral, Oxford
On Thursday 17th October 2019, Maples spent a very enjoyable day visiting Christchurch Cathedral, Oxford. During the day we toured the collage and cathedral, taking in historic places such as the cloisters and the Great Hall that was used as inspiration for the hall in the Harry Potter films.
Whilst in the cathedral we were able to see many amazing artefacts and learnt about the story of the Patron Saint of Oxford, Saint Frideswide who was an Anglo-Saxon princess and whose remains are believed to be buried underneath the Cathedral. We also learnt about the history of the cathedral and the special clothing and objects given to bishops. Maples enthusiasm during our visit was clear as they responded with awe and wonder to the historic sights we saw as well as asking questions and sharing their own knowledge of Christianity.
We were very privileged to conduct an act of worship in one of the chapels and to share this with members of the public during which the children read prayers and sung a harvest hymn.
It was super to take our learning out of the classroom and to visit such a sacred place where the life of Jesus Christ is remembered and celebrated every day.
